Style Diary #11

I thought I'd bring back these Style Diary things even though since I'm at uni I'm now having to work with a teeny capsule wardrobe and use a rubbish lil mirror too...I know, I know - poor me ;-) Also, be prepared to see a lot of this camel coat as I stupidly left most of my coat collection at home as if it wasn't going to be cold living by the frickin' sea! All of this is going to either inspire me to shop my wardrobe or go out to the actual shops and buy new things, we shall see (although we all know it'll be the latter!)

Can Corduroy Be Cool?

I think so. Maybe I'm a victim of the instagram effect or maybe I like the nostalgia of them - they bring me back to my childhood when my wardrobe was full of cords of every colour, but right now I'm craving a pair of pink corduroy trousers. Yes, really. To be fair this isn't the first time Isabel Marant has got me coveting an unlikely trend (wedge trainers anyone?) but she can add that certain je ne sais quoi to just about anything plus you know that pink is kind of my thing. I don't really buy into trends that much now but I think they'll be a really fun addition to my autumn wardrobe! Not convinced? Then be inspired:

The World Of Anna Sui | Part Two

For my second installment of The World Of Anna Sui I think I'm gonna just get stuck in with the photos - it's very picture heavy but I hope you enjoy all the little details and thought that goes into each look as much as I did.

The upper gallery is based around Anna's collaborations such as those with James Coviello and François Nars. You can see Coviello's horse which was modelled for the A/W 1998 show.

A Very Special Purchase

Liberty in London is one of my all time favourite stores and I just so happened to be in the area with a few hours to kill on the very day of my one year transplant anniversary. I popped in 'just to have a look' but ended up leaving with a purchase that is special in more ways than one...

The September Wishlist

September is a time of new beginnings for many therefore making it a blimmin' good excuse for new additions to your wardrobe. I'll be starting uni at the end of the month (eek!) so have already picked up a few 'uni essentials'...new start, new look etc etc! I've compiled a wishlist to see you (and me) into the tricky transitional season. Happy shopping!

A Final Summer Look

I thought I'd squeeze in a final summer outfit while I still can, even though the weather is already going all autumnal on us. I like ankle boots and chunky knits as much as the next blogger but I will miss the sunny days and the chance to wear some of the perfect basics that I bought during the summer months, like these Holy Grail status shorts from Topshop and this little jacket from Primark. It was an emergency buy on an unexpectedly chilly day but has proved to be so useful and such a good fit too.

Where Are The Good Vibes?

I won't even lie to you, I'm feeling a little bit fed up. I'm not as patient as I was pre transplant but to be honest that's not surprising. New lungs are a second chance at life but I know I'm living on borrowed time still...it's not a negative thing, because I think it's given me a bit more of a get up and go attitude, I complain but really give less fooks about the state of my hair and face and it's made me braver. However I feel like every day I need to be doing something and making the most of it and when I can't it feels like a waste and I feel a bit anxious. Some people say 'Oh but what's a week of your life?' Quite a lot longer for me than it is for you actually, kinda like how one year for a human is seven years for a dog hahaha.

Preloved | Two Tone Ballet Flats

I am such a shoe girl - some of you may remember back in the day when this blog was called Niamh Nelson Loves Shoes hahaha. So thought I'd show you a recent pair, in my new 'series' if you will sharing the preloved things I've picked up. It may be a bit useless to some as I can't provide links to the products but hopefully it'll prove that you can pick up some gorge bits second hand! I used to buy loads of vintage when I was younger (and wish I'd bloody kept it all.) Also, it's just nice to go back to old school blogging where you shared something because you love it, for the pure joy of it and not just to earn dollar (although there's nothing wrong with that either if that's your thing!)

Diamonds Are Not Forever

Oh look, an all black outfit for a change...lololol. Not exactly a summer outfit but then summer hasn't really been playing ball has it? We were really lucky in spring with the sunshine so shouldn't complain really but still. Ok I'll stop being so British now and shut up about the weather!

Tee ASOS Jeans J Brand Shoes Adidas Bag Kate Spade

RIP to this little necklace, I loved thee well til I destroyed it by snapping it in half as it got caught in my jacket. It was from and I loved it so much I literally never took it off, which is how I killed it I think. I'm not known for looking after jewellery well, one of my big fears should someone ever be strange enough to marry me is getting an engagement ring as I know I'll lose it in about 5 seconds within it being on my finger. Future spouse, maybe just buy me a designer bag instead. Or a puppy,

What would you choose instead of a diamond?

Levi's Love

So this is a typical outfit for a night out...be pleased I'm showing you the before and not the aftermath. This night ended being covered in beer, a little cry on the way home and a lot poorer than I was before I left my house but it was the most fun still!

The World Of Anna Sui | Part One

Last time I went to the Fashion and Textile Museum in London it was to visit - unfortunately I missed  but I'm back now helping out with  which is super fun (and the first retrospective of an American designer in a British museum.) It's also quite nostalgic for me personally as Secret Wish was my first ever perfume! I kept that fairy topped bottle for years.

Style Diary #10

This may come as shock to you but here I am outside of my room lololol. Now you know I do actually leave my house, although I must say mirror selfies are just hella easier. I'll keep trying but it's bloody hard - how people do these full on photo shoots in the streets I do not know. I commend you!

Style Diary #9

So I don't have too much to show you, my camera deleted a load of stuff for some reason! Plus the wifi in my house has been a lil bitch lately, basically technology has not been my friend this week. But it doesn't matter really because I've been spending as much time in the sun as possible (with that Factor 50 #transplantlife)  and I hope you've been able to make the most of it too! Today I'm going to schedule some posts though so hopefully things will be a bit more regular around here now.

Tuesday

Top Belt ASOS Skirt Primark Shoes Topshop Bag Earrings Necklace (that I wear every day)

What I need to do is stop buying these little ribbed tops but I can't get enough! This one is so handy too, I bought it twice because I've been living in it. Tuesday was actually really nice, I spent it with my grandparents at this big garden centre and I bought a load of crap I really didn't need.

Wednesday

Dress Kate Moss x Topshop via Depop Bag Mulberry Shoes GAP () Earrings ?

This dress came out when I was about 15 and I was gutted to have missed it (I definitely couldn't afford to be dropping £60 on anything never mind a dress) so when I found it recently on good ol' Depop for £14 I was so hyped.  I love how subtle the stars are because it means the print won't date as quickly as others might and the shape is perfect plus it has pockets. I know, right??

Friday

Top  Dress Shoes Topshop Earrings

I'm telling you I don't know how I survived summer before this dress. As someone who lives in jeans I struggled a little with dressing for warmer weather but this is just perf! Plus again, it has these giant pockets and we all know a dress is made approx 10x better when it has pockets.

Saturday

Dress Shoes Earrings

I stalked this dress every day for a week waiting for an 8 or 10 to come back in stock and I nabbed the last one - perseverance pays off my friends. It just about does up but it's worth not being able to breathe comfortably haha. I thought it was slightly Reformation-esque and I'm obsessed with that brand this summer. This was taken after an allergic reaction to gin which was fun but other than that I actually had the best night. A stranger gave me his sliders after I was walking around with no shoes, how bloody kind - and people say that Londoners are rude!

If you guys like this stuff by the way I'm forever selling my wardrobe on Depop! Search sickchickchic :) Hope everyone is having a fab week!

The Prettiest Trend This Summer

So now that weather seems to be playing ball I for one am so buzzing to start wearing more of my Spring/Summer wardrobe. I used to be such an Autumn/Winter girl but I'm getting a little bored of jeans and coats - bring on florals, blue denim and cute lil tops! One trend I'm obsessed with right now is all the embroidered goodness that's everywhere...not my usual thing but I love the detail and it makes a nice change to plain basics. Sure you can give it a go yourself but if, like me, you're not so skilled with a needle and thread I've rounded up some of the best from Quiz Clothing (make sure you check out the site, especially the beaut section for more goodness!)

Blue Embroidered Denim Jacket £34.99 - How cute would this look with summer dresses and trainers (perhaps one of these...)
Blue And White Gingham Bardot Top £19.99 - I'd wear this with big gold hoops and a pop of red, maybe a little bag or a red lip.
Pink Embroidered Tie Up Shoes £29.99 - Ok so tie up shoes can be an absolute pain BUT they look super cute with floaty dresses.
White Flower Embroidered Trainers £22.99 - Top of my Spring hitlist are some Gucci-esque embroidered trainers and these would fit the bill nicely.
Blue And White Striped Embroidered Swing Vest Top £16.99 - How easy is this to wear with some skinnies and sandals/heels?
Light Blue Flower Embroidered Skinny Jeans £34.99 - I had to sell my embroidered jeans as they were a wee bit big - so gutted! So I'm on the lookout for a new pair and I love the red embroidery on these.

And some inspiration on how to wear it...

What do you think of this trend? I want an embroidered denim jacket ASAP!

Athleisure: Getting The Sports-Luxe Look

So I thought the whole athleisure thing wasn't for me but it seems I can't get enough - but let's be honest, any trend that comfy was always going to be a winner.  Here's some tips on how to achieve the look yourself (it's way more chic than chav!)

Athleisure: Getting the sports-luxe look

Are you ready for fashion to be comfortable? For years, we’ve longed for a trend that puts comfort first — and it seems all those years of wishin’ have paid off! Kick off your heels girls, because we can now step out in trainers, leggings, loose-fitting tees and even jogging bottoms all in the name of Athleisure, officially our favourite EVER trend.

Now, we aren’t saying you can crawl out of bed, throw on our trackies and look like a supermodel. While the basics of this look are comfort classics, you’ll need to style it right to create a perfectly polished look.
Here, we look at the staple items you’ll need in your wardrobe to take your sports-luxe look from slob to sass:

Staple items:
To nail this look, make sure you’ve got:
  • Sports tops — cropped tops and hoodies are perfect when paired with a pair of leggings or jogging bottoms and bomber jacket. If you’re not quite ready to show off your tum, opt for a loose-fitting sports jersey with mesh detailing.
  • Leggings or joggers — we’re not talking your old gymwear here. Instead, invest in a pair of branded leggings or jogging bottoms that are tapered and cuffed for a close fit.
  • A bomber jacket — HUGE in 2016 and set to be even bigger this year, the loose-fitting, bulky shape of a bomber is a must for creating this look. For a feminine look, choose fresh pastel shades.
  • Trainers — forget heels, this trend is all about a great pair of trainers.

Your Athleisure essentials are key to making this look work, whether you wear them together for the ultimate sports-luxe combo or work them into other outfits.

This trend is fabulously versatile – who knew a pair of  could be the perfect accessory to your favourite flirty, feminine dress? The juxtaposition will cement your status as the ultimate fashionista! But you should also keep our golden rules in mind:
  • Accessorise, accessorise, accessorise! — sportswear is generally quite plain, so make your outfit pop with jewellery. Think 90s throwback gold hoops and choker and delicate gold necklaces.
  • Wear a coat — one of the easiest ways to take your look from gym to street is to wear a coat. Whether it’s a loose-fitting, vintage-inspired denim or bomber jacket or a longer, open duster coat, they’ll add to your look on cooler days.
  • Cover your bum — if the thought of wearing leggings fills you with dread, tie a checked or denim shirt around your waist. Acting as a super-cool, bottom-covering skirt, it will tie in with your look without cramping your style.
  • Keep your workout clothes separate — if you are going to the gym, keep your workout wear separate to your Athleisure wear so as not to cross-contaminate fashion with fitness.

Style Diary #8

I don't even know what to say what hasn't already been said by everyone else, only that I'm heartbroken by what has happened in Manchester. It's horrid thinking most of those kids probably got those tickets as Christmas/Birthday pressies and they would have been looking forward to the concert for months. I'm posting anyway, as I feel we have to carry on as normal as we can, but everyone is in my thoughts right now.

Style Diary #7

Hi! Did you have a good week? I literally had no idea what to wear because of this bloody weather, I just want it to be summer right now please. Sorry for the mega blurry pics, I just take them quickly as I'm going out the door as I want them to be 'real' and show what I was actually wearing!

Style Diary #6

Hiyaaaaaa! Someone said to me I was vain for doing these and I guess blogging is a bit vain in lots of ways but in many others it's not because it's a community. I don't do this because I love myself and think I'm amazing but rather because I like to share things and also these are just silly outfit snaps - it's not that deep. Not everyone will get it and that's fine but what happened to 'you do you' etc etc. As well I don't think I'd even know what to wear in the morning where it not for other blogs and instagram haha.

Style Diary #5

Excuse me Mr Sun, where did you go? Last week was cold. Also, I can't believe this is the fifth style diary, how fast does the time go??

Monday

Jacket Topshop (alternative here) Top M&S Jeans M&S Shoes Converse

That khaki jacket again. I can't even remember what I did on Monday so it couldn't have been that exciting.

Tuesday

Shirt Topshop Jeans Levi's Shoes Converse

Brunchin' brunchin'. This shirt is new, this is the kind of outfit I used to wear back when I was like 13 and going through my 'grunger' stage hahaha so I was enjoying the nostalgia. Less enjoyable was how bloody rough I felt this day, I was like a zombie which was fun.

Wednesday

Jacket Topshop Hoodie Topshop Jeans J Brand Shoes Adidas

Was still feeling super rough but chucked this on for an emergency dash to the shop for Haribo.

Thursday

Jacket Topshop Jumper H&M Jeans New Look Shoes Adidas Socks ASOS Bag Mulberry

Leather look jeans cos I edgy. I did some shopppping.

Friday

Top H&M

Not the best pic but I forgot to take a different one - at least it's proof I do actually leave my bedroom haha! But I wanted to show you to this top because it's a good 'un. I didn't think these bardot style tops would suit me but I love it (even if someone in the club did pull it down 😭) It has these cute little bows on the arms, it came in red and maybe blue too I think plus it was something silly like £12.99. I recommend if you can find it in store!

Saturday

Top Topshop Jeans Topshop Bag Mulberry Shoes Mango

These jeans used to be my faves but I've gotten skinnier since I bought them and also, them being Topshop, has meant they've lived a very short life. Also, definitely once you get designer denim nothing else compares and this is sad news for my bank account.

Sunday

Top Topshop Skirt Pimkie Shoes Mango Bag Mulberry

Basically the same outfit as the day before but with my patchy tan/bruised legs out.

I hope you had a good week!
