Blogmas #5: Current Night Time Skincare Routine

I have a confession to make. Over the years I've been super lazy when it comes to a skincare routine. I never had any issues with blemishes so never really felt the need to put much effort in. However the lack of attention started to catch up with me and I found my skin was feeling really dehydrated, I was starting to get annoying mini breakouts and was looking a bit meh in general. It's taken some playing around with but I think I've found some products that seem to be working for now - best of all they're cruelty-free and budget friendly!

An Evening Skincare Routine For Lazy Girls Like Me

So lately I've realised I need to pull my socks up when it comes to looking after my skin! I may feel ill most of the time but I certainly don't want to look it - however when I am unwell it's my skin that gives away the tell tale signs straightaway. Also 6x a day every day I use a face mask nebuliser () which leaves my skin in a bit of a state as it really dries it out. I am very lazy with skincare (I know, my bad) but this super quick routine in the evenings takes a couple of minutes and my skin is definitely thanking me for making that teeny bit of effort!

Origins High-potency Night-A-Mins Skin renewing face oil review

So I begin with which as you can see is on it's way out! To be honest I don't think any cream is going to reduce my dark circles as I very rarely get a decent nights sleep but under my eyes were so dry before. Now they're moisturised it's making applying concealer to the area a dream so it's so much easier to hide the panda eyes.

Next up is , but I'm just including it again because I love it and I don't like to have too many different products on the go at once because I think it makes my skin freak out a lot! But to recap this is a lovely, lightweight serum that sinks in super quickly (speediness is important to me when I'm desperate to get in bed and snooze) and leaves skin silky soft. I've found this acts as a great primer for make up too as it really smooths the skin out so I've been using it before applying

Finally, a newbie. I was lucky enough to receive a preview of the Origins High-Potency Night-A-Mins Skin Refining Oil* and after trialling it out ever since it is love. I really like  but as the nights are starting to get warmer I'm finding it slightly too heavy so I stopped using it a while back. This Origins option is much lighter and when I initially applied it because it sunk in so quickly and didn't really leave my skin with that sheen that you get with oils, I must admit I was a bit disappointed! I honestly thought it wouldn't have any effect on my skin at all but I was so wrong because when I woke the next day my skin was so soft and smooth and glowy. Since the first time I've started using this my skin has improved so much, it feels bouncier and plumper, just all round healthier really. It sounds weird but I literally can't stop touching my face! Keep an eye out for this little bottle of loveliness, if only to smell it - vanilla and neroli, I shall say no more.

This routine must be doing something right because everyone keeps saying how well I look when the reality is I feel like absolute poop haha! But there's less redness and ickness, but my skin (bar the dark circles) wasn't looking too bad at all if I do say so myself *inserts sassy hand girl emoji* I used to be so sceptical of skincare but this has proved to me it's so worth having some kind of routine, no matter how small!

What's your evening skincare routine? Or do you think it's all a load of faff?

BEAUTY | The Cleansers

I'll hold my hands up and be the first to admit that when it comes to a skincare rountine I'm not the most consistent shall we say. I'll be good for about a month, then I get lazy and the moisturisers and face masks go out the window - of course then I'm complaining about not having perfect skin! But one thing I am vigilant with is cleansing...I'm proud to say the days of face wipes are long gone! I keep it all very simple, these are my favourite products to wash the day (and night) away.

REN Hot Cloth Cleanser Review, Superfacialist Vitamin C Cleansing Oil Review, Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser Review

As you can see hot cloth cleansers are a must for me in both the AM and PM, my long term favourite for the morning is the . It's light and creamy and just leaves my face feeling really clean and moisturised. The rose scent is so dreamy too! I just apply this to dry skin with my fingers and rinse off with warm water and a flannel (seriously, does anyone ever bother with the little muslin thing these cleansers come with?)

I always double cleanse at night, even if I'm not wearing make up or haven't left the house as I think it's just a good habit to get into. I start with *deep breath* the . Amazing product, but what a long name! I love this so much this is in fact my second bottle of the stuff. It feels lovely to massage in and it's great at removing even the most stubborn eye make up without stinging. The citrusy scent may take a little getting used to for some (it does remind me a little of kitchen cleaning products!) but because I love it so much I've grown to adore the scent too. A little goes a very long way with this stuff as well so it's a bargain in my eyes.

Next is a cult product that I only tried for the first time this year and I've definitely been missing out! The is a little thicker in consistency compared to the REN one which is why I use it in the evening as I find it's better at taking off make up. It has this kind of herbal scent that I love too, I think it's really unique! I apply this using my which is a really nifty little tool to really help buff away dead skin cells. I'm a bit wary of chemical exfoliators so prefer manual ones and this is great at getting the job done - saves time too because you're not having to faff around with different scrubs and things!

What are your favourite cleansers? I would love some morning recommendations as my REN one is running out!

BEAUTY | Origins at John Lewis Oxford Street

So I was lucky enough to be invited down with a few other bloggers to check out the revamped Origins counter in John Lewis on Oxford Street. It was such a fun evening and I'm under no obligation to blog about it but I really want to tell you about how much I love the new retail space because I don't know about you but I find a lot of high end beauty counters very intimidating. I often feel like I can't touch anything and I feel a bit nervous to ask for help. Or I feel equally nervous when they approach me (I know, I'm a wuss!) But the concept of the new counter is all about it being easy for you to explore the products alone, with help from friendly staff there if you need it of course. There's also a few things on offer at all Origins counters which I think are unique and that you might not know about so I wanna let you know about those too!

I'll apologise now for the bad quality photos - I stupidly forgot my camera which is reason #1454453 I'd never make it as a full time blogger!

So. Many. Products. And can we just appreciate the Pinterest-worthy displays? I love the jars, not only do they look really cool, they also showcase the ingredients inside the products which I think is really interesting! For example I have the Original Skin Renewal Serum () that contains Willowherb but I had no clue what that was and here it is, looking all pretty. There are testers for everything too which for me is really important because I hate buying skincare without knowing the scent/texture.

There's this fab little area where you can get a skincare consultation and a mini facial for free which I think is amazing considering how much places will charge you for something like that! Definitely worth a go if you're confused about what products you should be using and you're under no obligation to buy anything (although I defy anyone who won't be tempted to leave with at least one product!)

This is the gift wrap station and I won't lie, I kinda want one of these in my house! This is again a free service when you make a purchase and is available all year round (I have a feeling this will be a lifesaver for a lot of men!)

I've saved what I think you'll find the best for last - The Sample Bar. It's literally like a free pick 'n' mix of skincare samples, amazing right? I always want to ask for samples at beauty counters but I always worry they'll be like 'No you peasant, buy the full sized product!' so to be able to take some without the awkwardness is an awkward girl's dream come true. I feel like this is going to be very popular. Not every Origins counter has this yet but they are one of the few brands that are fab for letting you try out products without getting huffy about it, this I know because I've been to three different counters since (I keep dragging everyone I go shopping with to check out their stuff!) and the staff have been super friendly and helpful. The free skin consultations and mini facials are available nationwide too!

After the tour of the new space we headed off to The Edition Hotel for drinks and nibbles which was absolutely lovely! It was great to meet the girls from Origins and John Lewis as well as fellow bloggers , , and (I almost didn't want to link their blogs because they just show how embarrassing mine is haha!) So thank you John Lewis and Origins for a lovely evening and also for the gift bag too (reviews coming soon!)

What do you think of the revamped space? Have you tried anything from Origins before?

BEAUTY | Origins Original Skin Renewal Serum Review + GIVEAWAY

Ok, so I have a little confession to make - I'd never tried a serum before now. Reading beauty blogs converted me to double cleansing, eye creams and even facial oils but I'd always thought serum was just extra faff that I didn't need to bother with. I didn't think my skin needed all that moisture but after trying out this I can see I was wrong.

Origins Original Skin Renewal Serum Review
Origins Original Skin Renewal Serum Review

I thought that serums would be sticky and would just add time to my skincare routine but this sinks in so quickly and leaves skin feeling all nice and silky. I've been using this in between cleansing and moisturising in the mornings and evenings and I've really noticed a difference. makes my skin so ick and dry even when I use facial oils but this extra step has really helped keep my face soft and in top condition...definitely no mean feat when I'm on those meds so I'm seriously impressed! I don't see myself starting up some crazy 11-step skincare routine any time soon but this is definitely something I'll be keeping up with.

And now for something exciting...I have a bottle of this lovely stuff to give away (For UK entrants only I'm afraid!) To enter all I ask is for two simple things:

- Follow me on bloglovin'
- Leave a comment on this post saying things you would like to see more of or less of on the blog and your bloglovin' name :)

I'll announce the winner on Sunday 12th April...good luck!

BEAUTY | Getting Back On Track

Sorry for the iPhone snap!

While I was in hospital it's safe to say that my skincare routine wasn't exactly top of my priorities. Understandable, but as a result my face has definitely suffered! Thankfully I've managed to stay blemish-free but sitting for the majority of the day and night for days on end with an oxygen mask stuck to my face has left it really dry and dull. My beauty stash is tiny but I've found what I do have in my bathroom cabinet has been really helping:

-Super Facialist Vitamin C+ Skin Renew Cleansing Oil 200ml £10.99 - I've reviewed this before here, but it's only this year that I started using it more regularly. I picked it up because I'd read good things about the range and that it seemed lightweight (anything too thick and oily makes me cringe!) It's a pre-cleanser, which I didn't realise until I got it home and at first I thought 'Well that sounds like a lot of faff' but the extra step is totally worth it...massage it onto a dry face (which feels divine) and then as you rinse it off it transforms into this milky texture that I find is really effective in removing make up. My skin feels so soft afterwards that I almost feel like I don't need to do anything else. The only thing I would say is that the citrusy scent took some getting used to but now I actually like it.

-REN Hot Cloth Cleanser 150ml £16.00 - Yay to ASOS stocking REN! I'm a huge fan of their products and when I got a discount code to celebrate my third anniversary with ASOS (thanks guys!) I thought it only right to treat myself to something. I'd been using No7 Beautiful Skin Hot Cloth Cleanser which is lovely and still gets used in the morning but I can't resist anything rose scented! The REN cleanser is a lot thicker than the No7 one so it feels like you're getting a deeper cleanse which is perfect for the end of the day. It's also great at reducing redness as well, my face gets all flushed sometimes when I'm on IVs and while nothing will make it disappear completely I find it's fab at calming it down.

-Super Facialist Rose Intense Moisture Mask 125ml £8.99 - After being so impressed with the Cleansing Oil I was keen to pick up another product from the range and went for this mask because as I said, I love rose scents! This smells gorgeous but I think for some people it might be too overpowering and sweet. I usually have trouble finding face masks I get along with, I don't consider my skin to be sensitive but the few I've tried in the past have really irritated it. However I have no problems with this, I apply it twice a week and leave for about 5 minutes and my skin feels so hydrated afterwards. It feels smooth and I don't know if it's just me but I'm sure it looks plumper too. I love this and think it's such a bargain!

After that I apply Clinique All About Eyes Rich Eye Cream and The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil (see review here) and luckily I think my skin is getting back on track. I wish I could say the same for my health...I've just gone back to square one and although my IVs finished yesterday I think I'm going to need more or maybe even another hospital stay. But I'll bore you with that tomorrow after my clinic appointment today.

What are your go-to products for giving your skin some TLC?

BEAUTY | The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil

The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil Review

Just thought I'd do a quick post today on a little duo I've been loving recently! My skin has been a little dry recently, it usually is because of all the medication I'm on and every day I'm spending who knows how long breathing in nebulised medicines so there's a lot of smoke around my face which dries it out. I work on a basement floor where it's either too air conditioned or too heated, add all of this to the horrendous cold weather we've been having and it's safe to say my skin has been in serious need of a bit of TLC! I'd been rather intrigued by facial oils for a while now after reading so many bloggers rave about them and when The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil appeared on Caroline's blog I thought I'd give it a go. Mainly because it's just £12 (unashamed cheapskate here!) and she said it was light which appealed to me because the thought of slapping on anything too oily on my face makes me cringe (I have a real thing about greasiness, I have to wash my hair every day in case it's the tiniest bit oily!) I also picked up The Body Shop Vitamin E Intense Moisture Cream as well because it was only £4 when you bought the oil. I've been using them for a couple of weeks now and am really impressed!

The first thing I'll talk about is the scent...I usually don't venture into The Body Shop very often because I just can't breathe in there and the few times I've used their products, such as the body butters, the scent has just been too much and has really put me off. Luckily these products are really inoffensive, to me they have that classic Nivea scent that I love so that's a big thumbs up from me straight away! You need just a couple of drops of oil (which has a little pipette thing so it's easy to get the amount you want) to cover your face and it absorbs really quickly which is handy because who wants to wait around for products to sink in when you could be sleeping? I've definitely noticed an improvement in the way my skin feels, that tight feeling I used to get has now completely gone which feels wonderful! My skin's overall appearance is also better, it's brighter with less redness...I find I'm using far less concealer than I used to. Basically, my skin feels happy! The moisturiser is also lovely, it's not greasy but it's very heavy so I only use a teeny bit every morning but unlike other day creams I've used in the past I find it's keeping my skin hydrated all day, even when I'm standing under a blasting air con. I like that it comes in a little pot too, I always squeeze out too much when it's in a tube and I like to see how much product I've got left as well. When the weather warms up I'll have to swap it for something lighter but for now it's perfect.

I've never been too impressed with The Body Shop's bodycare stuff and I'd never really viewed them as a brand to go to when it came to skincare but I'm definitely eating my words with this stuff. I'm sure there are better oils out there but if, like me, you've never tried one before and are a bit wary I think this is a good place to start!
